    The Arts Alliance held its third annual 48-Hour Film Festival on March 22. Participants had two days to write, film and edit their submissions, which were shown this weekend at Fearon Hall on St. Bernardine’s campus. On Saturday, about 150 people attended the showing of five-to-10-minute films and a red carpet gala beforehand. The Arts Alliance assigned participants a line of dialogue, a prop and the choice of using one or both of two film genres in their movies.

    From the Jan. 24, 1925 Forest Parker, five years after the 18th Amendment took place which illegalized the manufacture, transportation and sale of alcohol:Soft drink parlors in Forest Park, of which there are several in almost every block, may have to remove their carefully concealing curtains, partitions or other obstructions which prohibit a view of their interiors, if the Pioneer Men’s Club of Forest Park has its way.

    The 1979 special holiday ad section of the Forest Park Review featured special buys from local businesses, including Trage Brothers at 7440 Madison St. Atari Video Game Console with 25 games and additional Game Cartridges (Superman, Casino, Missile Command) were available. In addition, the 4-hour VHS video recorder with remote pause controls was a must-have for those who were ahead of the times.

    Kicking off the holiday shopping season, small businesses along Madison Street were bustling despite the chilly temperatures. As an incentive for “shopping small” in Forest Park, Laurie Kokenes and Christine Bernard from Forest Park Chamber, were stationed at Brown Cow Ice Cream Parlor from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. rewarding shoppers who brought in receipts with free $25 or $50 gift cards.
