In London's Chinatown, on a street packed with restaurants, no one pays any attention to Jay Rayner. We stride down Gerrard Street in the midday sun, and enter a lively little Chinese joint called Four Seasons, which majors in duck. Rayner may be a regular, but no one seems to know who he is — neither staff nor diners — and, if they do, they don’t care. The Fitzwilliam Hotel opened on St Stephen's Green in 1998, in an enviable location at the top of Grafton Street, surrounded by Georgian Dublin. The zeitgeisty blend of minimalist design and glossy Terence Conran interiors initially impressed, but the new-build's blingy fit-out didn't age well. The bar, which should have buzzed with life, always felt cold and soulless, failing to win over the discerning locals who patronised neighbouring 5-star hotel bars.

Love to see responses like this to my writing: reactive and creative marketing. Plus, it's piqued my interest in Letterkenny.

As travel writer @JillianBolger discovered how @visitberlin has used its turbulent past to help create a vibrant present. Similarly, we're using our past to help guide us in present to create a brighter future that will encourage more to @govisitdonegal. https://t.co/MtsmUt1ppe
