Paul Pinto, a composer, an artist and an original cast member of “Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812,” on Broadway, eagerly discussed the ins and outs of his latest original work, “Mano A Mano,” a unique stage performance that he is currently workshopping and bringing to some local colleges.

Rain dripped and tears dropped Saturday at Court Square lawn. A protest calling for a ceasefire in Gaza started at 11:30 a.m. A line of demonstrators silently marched around Court Square with signs and posters calling for peace in Gaza and Israel. Approximately 50 protestors were present, despite the rain. Members of Peace Praxis, a local antiwar group, started out the demonstration with songs and speech. The keynote was given by Hasan Hamdan, who works with local refugees in Harrisonburg.

In an interview, Karen Aspinwall’s speaking voice is bright and confident. The lead in an upcoming play, Aspinwall called out answers to questions perched on a purple settee onstage at Court Square Theater Monday. Aspinwall, of Harrisonburg, plays the main character Shelby in an upcoming production of the play “Steel Magnolias,” written by Robert Harling and directed by local theater aficionado Steve Winegard.

The first few weeks of December are aflutter with seasonal events to celebrate. Christmas parades are lined up throughout downtown Harrisonburg and towns in Rockingham County from Grottoes to Elkton. The towns across Rockingham County and the city of Harrisonburg are hosting festive events to mark the start of the season. Check out the closest one or visit a few. Trying to make all the parades in the county might be a challenge, since many of them take place the first weekend in December.

It’s a friendly goldendoodle, Jerry, who wears a “therapy dog” vest. Jerry is Dr. Julia Giardina’s dog.
