Whenever I tell someone what I do for work, without fail, the first question they ask me is: “What’s your favorite sunglass brand?” I’m sure our readers get that one a lot too. I usually reply with something along the lines of, “That’s like asking a parent to pick their favorite child.” The second question I typically get is: “What’s the biggest trend in eyewear?” This one, I do have an answer to. Sustainable eyewear is by far the most significant trend I’ve witnessed over my 10 years at 20/20.

Each year, the eyewear world comes together for three days in Milan to preview the industry’s top offerings. I had the opportunity to fly to Italy to join the 42,000 other attendees from 168 countries and 1,200 exhibitors for the MIDO 2025 international trade show at Fiera Milano, Rho. The show floor was expansive, taking up seven pavilions and crowded with excited visitors. There was a clear focus on sustainability, inclusion and innovation that was ever present throughout the exhibition.
