Over my eight years on the House Armed Services Committee and in Congress, I’ve seen firsthand all that northeast Indiana can offer to our national security and to defense manufacturers. We have a skilled workforce that knows how to make things, and we continue to produce talented graduates through universities such as Trine and Purdue Fort Wayne. There are 38,000 engineers in northeast Indiana.

In late April, President Joe Biden signed my legislation, the MAHSA Act, into law. The bill sanctions Iran’s supreme leader and his inner circle for Iran’s state sponsorship of terrorism and is the toughest sanctions package on Iran to pass Congress in years. While the MAHSA Act is a win for America and our allies in the Mideast, the Biden administration and Democrats in Congress have done everything possible to ignore Iran’s human rights abuses and other crimes.

To pull it off, the Armed Services Committees must embrace bipartisanship, just as we have in the past. The National Defense Authorization Act, Congress’s annual military authorization bill, is one of the least controversial bills produced in Washington. The NDAA first passed Congress in 1961.

Much is made of the cost of college tuition, but significantly less fanfare is given to what universities spend their money on to justify those costs. None of those spending priorities are more useless, or more damaging, than the diversity, equity, and inclusion bureaucracies that promote racism to young, impressionable adults. Take a look across the landscape of college education and you will see just how many taxpayer dollars are being wasted on DEI programs.

High gas prices are slamming families. The Biden administration has taken two recent actions in Alaska that are the exact opposite of what it should be doing to bring down these prices. Specifically, the Biden administration decided to seven oil and gas leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The Department of Interior has also just proposed a new rule blocking leasing in the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, which is a massive area on Alaska’s North Slope.
