The Forest City Education Foundation held their annual Senior Awards Night program last (Wednesday) night at the Boman Fine Arts Center. The foundation awarded just over 532-thousand dollars to 44 seniors graduating, a similar amount awarded last year. The program began with every senior receiving a scholarship from the Hanson Family Foundation, ranging from $2,700, to $3,700 if the student attends NIACC, and $4,100 if the student attends Waldorf.

A series of showers and thunderstorms swept across eastern Iowa producing small hail and rainfall. The storms dropped rain and hail reported from Charles City to Waverly, with Charles City receiving the most rain reported.

Today (2/15/25) is the deadline to nominate individuals to be named to the Forest City School Athletics Hall of Fame. The Forest City Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 2023 to recognize and honor former athletes, coaches, teams, administrators and patrons who have made significant contributions to the district’s athletics program.

The Forest City YMCA held a ribbon cutting Friday morning (2/15/25) at 10am to celebrate new hours. The Y has introduced 24 hour access to the facility and celebrated with an open house and ribbon cutting with the Forest City Chamber of Commerce. Members can gain 24 hour access with the key-fob and have partial use of the facility. Not all functions of the YMCA are available for 24 hour use. Officials say members can visit the front desk of the facility to register for 24 hour access.

The Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce held their annual meeting and awards celebration Thursday night at the Surf Ballroom. The night began with outgoing Board Chair, Sarah Nielsen of First Citizens Bank, passing the gavel to incoming Board Chair, Mark Dodd, of One Vision. Chamber President and CEO, Stacy Doughan, then reviewed the many accomplishments of the chamber to the crowd of 243. Doughan said the record crowd demonstrates that people are excited about everything happening in the community.
