Happy 30th anniversary to the comic strip Mutts by Patrick McDonnell. The Sunday page shown above was originally intended to be the final Flash Gordon strip of my tenure back in 2003, with an art assist by Patrick McDonnell. This was nixed by the comics editor up at King who, in his opinion, just didn't think it worked as a Flash Gordon page. Since it wasn't going to run as a Flash Gordon page Patrick asked that same editor if he could run it as a Mutts Sunday page instead.

Going to see the High KingsAugust 15th at the Parkway Theater here in Minneapolis. As such I thought it would be fun to rerun this Patreon Post highlighting some of the art I've done of them over the years... The first time I saw the High Kings play was back in 2015. I posted a drawing online with Flash and Dale looking forward to seeing them perform - and The High Kings ended up reposting it on their Facebook page.

There's a ton of great nonfiction graphic novels out there - memoirs, historical - but I want to focus for now on just seven that are drawn from real life wartime experiences (no pun intended). Maus by Art Spiegelman This Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel tells the story of the Holocaust by way of Art Spiegelman’s conversations with his father, Vladek Spiegelman, a survivor of the concentration camps. Jews are depicted as mice, Germans as cats, and Poles as pigs.
