Commencing this week thousands of college campuses across our country and around the globe will begin to come alive with the joyful rituals of graduation. Seniors mostly in black gowns and tasseled caps will gather on sun-drenched lawns of stadiums or in echoing arenas. Families will travel from near and far, holding signs and flowers, eager to witness their loved ones take a symbolic walk across the stage into the next chapter of their lives.

BENBOW, Calif. — BENBOW, Calif. — George Mullins, a World War II veteran and local celebrity, celebrated his 100th birthday today. Mullins, who served as a staff sergeant in the 327th Glider Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne, participated in the historic invasion of Normandy, landing at Utah Beach, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. His bravery earned him numerous medals, including a Purple Heart. When asked how it felt to reach this milestone, Mullins shared his thoughts on turning 100.
