    CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – Risky business, driving around the railroad gates with the engine approaching. But that’s what happened with an SUV at the 5th Street NE crossing of the Norfolk Southern tracks in Canton. The vehicle was hit and dragged about two hundred feet, according to the Canton Fire Department. Just before the vehicle was struck though, a man or woman exited and ran off, apparently uninjured. That person was not seen again. The train engineer also was not hurt.

    COLUMBUS, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – The Ohio Traffic Safety Office is offering twenty-dollar rideshare credits to Ohioans who plan to consume alcohol, and want a safe way home this weekend. The Lyft credits must be used within 24 hours of acquisition, and you must use the Lyft app. A limited number of credits is being issued each day. A $20,000 grant from the Governors Highway Safety Association pays for the credits.

    CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – The new flagship eatery of the Hall of Fame Village opens later in the day on Thursday, at 4 p.m.The Gridiron Gastropub replaces the Don Shula’s American Kitchen restaurant in the Fan Engagement Zone. Village CEO Michael Crawford says it’ll be more fun with a wider variety of food items at various prices. The NFL Ticket will be up and running. There’s a Sunday brunch and lunch hours are coming soon.

    CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – It still may take months before any new progress is made at the Gameday Bay water park and the planned adjacent hotel. But Hall of Fame Village CEO Michael Crawford says the proposal by majority shareholder Stuart Lichter to take the company private should inject some of the needed funding to get the project back on track. Lichter heads up development company Industrial Realty Group.

    Courtesy Hall of Fame Village CANTON, Ohio (News Talk 1480 WHBC) – We now know what will replace the Don Shula’s American Kitchen restaurant in the Hall of Fame Village. The Village will operate the space as the Gridiron Gastropub in the Fan Engagement Zone, offering “upscale casual” fare with locally-sourced ingredients. The Gridiron Gastropub opens October 24, with a grand opening on November 8.
