By: Jim PetersonPosted: May 1, 2025The initial survey of US producers in March indicated that 2.015 million acres will be planted to durum in 2025. This is down 2 percent from 2.06 million in 2024. Many analysts had anticipated another year of higher planted area, due to the price premium of durum to HRS for the past few months.

By: Jim PetersonPosted: May 1, 2025Planting of the 2025 US HRS wheat crop was roughly one-third complete, as of the end of April. This is well ahead of the 5-year average pace. Lower than normal snow levels in many areas this winter, combined with dry soils going into winter have enabled producers to make early and quick progress in much of the region. There are exceptions, like most years, with some parts of the region facing wetter and colder soil conditions, delaying planting, in isolated areas.

Sadly, those shared values of freedom and independence are at risk. Our “purple” politics no longer exist.
