The Upstate enjoyed an outstanding competitive cheer season during the 2023-24 school year, winning one SCHSL state championship and having five other programs finish in the top four of the four classifications. Palmetto won the Class AAA championship, edging Anderson County rival Belton-Honea Path by one point. Here are the members of the 2023-24 All-Upstate Competitive Cheer team, nominated by their coaches.

Tuning up for the Atlantic Coast Conference grind, the Clemson basketball team got exactly what it wanted Friday night at Littlejohn Coliseum: a game in which the Tigers lost only a little sweat and no momentum. The No. 17 Tigers cruised to a 93-58 victory against Radford before an audience likely diminished in size because the game was played only 3 1/2 hours after the Clemson football team's victory in the Taxslayer Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Palmetto High competitive cheer team sat tightly bunched in the stands at Colonial Life Arena on Saturday waiting to learn whether its best effort had been good enough. The Mustangs heard Region 2-AAA rival Belton-Honea Path announced as the runner-up. "We didn't know if we'd won," coach Jamie Newsome said, "or if we hadn't placed."The wait was excruciating as they watched the Bears, the defending state champions, go to the floor to receive their awards.

The Greenville Drive are the 2023 champions of the South Atlantic League. The Drive defeated the Hudson Valley Renegades 7-3 on Tuesday night at Fluor Field to sweep the best-of-three championship series 2-0. Greenville also swept their division championship series against Hickory 2-0 to go undefeated in the postseason under fifth-year manager Iggy Suarez. It is the second SAL championship for the Drive, an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox that won the championship in 2017.
