Logistics, the industry of transporting goods and materials, is an enormous business worldwide. In 2023, some 20.2 billion tons of freight estimated at around $18.7 trillion was moved in the U.S. alone, according to the U.S. Dept. of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Of that, more than 12 billion tons estimated at more than $11 trillion were transported by truck/tractor trailer.

The Headwall Group is a portfolio company of Arsenal Capital Partners, which funds industrial and healthcare companies worldwide.

Rotor Technologies (Nashua, NH, USA) has developed a drone for agricultural applications such as crop spraying. The company, founded in 2021 by Hector Xu, a former MIT scientist who led the development and successful flight of the first ion-propelled airplane, specializes in large drone technology. This drone, known as  Sprayhawk, is in the final stages of development before going on the market.

Vision Systems Design’s 2024 Salary & Career survey asked readers about how technologies, especially artificial intelligence/machine learning are affecting their jobs. Based on responses to the survey, it appears that AI/machine learning not only is becoming an important addition to an engineer’s toolbox, but it is proactively used and positively embraced.
