Day of Giving: Learn how to swim with the Red Cross and Boys & Girls Clubs CHICAGO (CBS) -- You see them respond to disasters, but the American Red Cross also works tirelessly to prevent tragedies by teaching lifesaving skills, including swimming. At the Boys and Girls Club in Bridgeport, kids as young as 5 years old are able to get free swim lessons through the Red Cross.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- An accomplished artist makes a trip back home, reflecting on his roots, and sharing his story about his "Sweet Home Chicago" years. Kevin A. Williams, known by his artist moniker WAK, got his start in life and in art in the heart of the South Shore neighborhood. "It's been a beautiful journey. This was probably the best of times, when you don't know how it's going to turn out," he said. It was in South Shore that a teenage Williams was convinced that art could be his life's work.

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago singer and songwriter Ella Jenkins, known as the "First Lady of Children's Music," has died at the age of 100. Born in St. Louis, she moved to Chicago as a child. She taught herself the ukulele and the harmonica as a youngster. After graduating from college at San Francisco State University, Jenkins returned to Chicago and worked in community centers. She used music to teach children in those community centers, creating many of her own songs.
