Then, they were finally able to complete a test and I woke up from the procedure and ... didn't have cancer. Just totally didn't have it. You can go, the doctor said. We don't need to see you again for ten years. It took me a week to even process the relief. I'm not sure I still have.

    By Jim Wright For years, I attended the annual Memorial Day Parade in the town when I lived in New Jersey. The flatbed trucks decorated by various merchants and marching bands were usually followed by ambulances and firetrucks with sirens blaring. I would often think, "Shouldn't this be a solemn quiet observance?"Memorial Day, to me, should be a quiet day of reflection about those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedoms.
