    ON THIS DAY in 1903actress Nancy Carroll  was born in New York City. Her heyday was in Hollywood musicals of the 30’s, but she had two quality assignments in early TV.  She played the mother Alice when The Aldrich Family moved over from radio, and she also played the mother on the NBC TV sitcom Please Don’t Eat the Daisies (’65-’67).  Nancy died at age 61 August 6 1965 due to an aneurysm.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE USA!               ON THIS DAY in 1884lawyer and radio station manager George W. Trendle was born in Norwalk Ohio. He became co-owner/manager of Detroit radio station WXYZ, and oversaw the creation and development of three classic action/adventure radio series aimed at young audiences, The Lone Ranger, The Green Hornet and Sgt. Preston of the Yukon, all of which later made a transition to TV.

    ON THIS DAY in 1909 country musician Mother Maybelle Carter was born Maybelle Addington in Nicklesville Virginia. A member of The Carter Family, the first commercial rural country music group, she created a unique sound with her innovative ‘scratch’ style of guitar playing, where she used her thumb to play melody on the bass and middle strings, and her index finger to fill out the rhythm. She had three daughters, one of whom was June Carter Cash. She died Oct 23, 1978 at age 69.
