1 Introduction As global demographics shift towards an ageing population, the imperative to improve the health of older adults grows increasingly urgent. From the ecological perspective, neighbourhood characteristics play an important role in shaping health outcomes. Among these characteristics, socioeconomic status (SES) explains a large part of the variation in health status compared to other factors such as physical environment.

1 INTRODUCTION Currently, diabetes mellitus is one of three main chronic non-communicable diseases (Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, and Cardiovascular Diseases) and has the highest prevalence and most severe impact on people's health worldwide (Gupta et al., 2017). The prevalence of diabetes in China is 12.8%, and the number of people with diabetes ranks highest worldwide (Li et al., 2020).
