1 Introduction Sulfur is an attractive cathode material in electrochemical energy storage systems for high-energy metal-sulfur batteries, such as lithium sulfur batteries (LSBs), sodium sulfur batteries (SSBs), and magnesium-sulfur batteries (MSBs) configurations.[1] Different from the intercalation-type cathodes like LiFePO4 and LiCoO2 in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), sulfur cathodes undergo reversible conversion reactions with metal sulfides like Li2S, thus delivering an exceptionally high...

Abstract Calcium ion batteries (CIBs) are pursued as potentially low-cost and safe alternatives to current Li-ion batteries due to the high abundance of calcium element. However, the large and divalent nature of Ca2+ leads to strong interaction with intercalation hosts, sluggish ion diffusion kinetics and low power output.
