EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio – Stones removed during a road project along state Route 39 in East End will be used to help restore a historic bridge in Jefferson County that was built on the order of President Abraham Lincoln. At a Wednesday city Community Improvement Corporation meeting, a Jefferson County official asked the CIC to donate the large stones at the former Riverview Florist property on Parkway.

LISBON, Ohio – Thirty years of public service by Penny Traina, Columbiana County Port Authority CEO and executive director, were recognized Monday as the port authority board of directors accepted her retirement notice during its regular monthly meeting. Traina’s retirement will take effect April 1, ending nine years of leading the port authority as well as having served on its board and as its fiscal officer from 2012-2015.

LISBON, Ohio – After spending the past 30 years in public service, Penny Traina, Columbiana County Port Authority CEO and executive director, is retiring, effective April 1. Traina attended Bowling Green State University with the goal of becoming a teacher, but life intervened. She eventually earned a bachelor’s degree in human services from Canyon College in 2006, graduating at age 42. She and her two sons, Alfonso and Anthony, attended college together during some of that time.

Richard “Dickie” Bissell opened Gina’s Drive-Thru at 1147 Pennsylvania Ave. in 1984, before such drive-thru operations were common in this area.

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio – The Community Improvement Corporation logged more than $270,000 in loans to city businesses by the end of 2024, with only one of them behind in repayment, members learned during the organization’s annual meeting recently. Executive Director Bill Cowan presented a list of the loans that have been issued for a variety of businesses, which total $273,245.42.

GLENMOOR, Ohio – Rick Rudibaugh’s plans to purchase a building in a St. Clair Township neighborhood to relocate his plumbing business has turned into a family investment and a new full-service salon. In 2022, Rudibaugh purchased the well-established Sanford Plumbing in the East End of East Liverpool, and when he learned the owners of Tan City wanted to sell not only the business but the building at 46600 Y&O Road, he purchased it in October 2023.

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio – The renovation of the iconic J.C. Thompson Building in the city’s Diamond area is underway and is expected to be completed by next year, according to local architect Scott Shepherd of A&I Studio. Shepherd offered an update to the Community Improvement Corporation during its meeting Tuesday. The building was acquired by the CIC during the past administration and was recently sold for $1 to developer Craig Cozza, owner of The Vault on Fifth Street, with development in mind.
