Britain’s rivers are in crisis. But even with the steady stream of news on sewage spills, agricultural runoff and water scarcity pushing our once thriving waterways to the brink, it can be hard to know where to begin to protect your local river or to make an impact on a nation-wide level. Which is one of the reasons why River Action has launched a toolkit designed to give us the knowledge, tools and resources to protect and campaign for our local rivers.

Have you ever set out on a lake course only to be blinded by sunlight bouncing off the surface of the water on your return stretch, or taken your trusty pair of open water goggles to the pool only to feel like you’re swimming in the dark? £34The original essential tool for those who swim. A classic way to check your time and control your rests on any pool, no matter the distance and the stroke. With two available strap sizes, you can hold your Tiny Pace Clock to any bottle you use for drinking while you are swimming, and it won’t bother when you drink.

£159.99They say: This swimsuit is inspired by the thrill of open water swims and icy dips, and what better sense of thrill than… Jaws! With its flatteringly figure hugging design, and a playful flourish of colour, the streamlined cut allows you to have the shoulders and high thighs exposed, while keeping the body wrapped up warm. (Size: 8-18). We say: There is a lot to love about this suit. The shark-bite detail gets a lot of comments and always makes us smile.

Primarily worn to reduce drag, swim caps also protect hair from the effects of chlorine or salt water, keep hair out of your face while you’re swimming and stop stray hairs from entering the pool. In open water, they also help regulate head temperature and make you more visible; supervised open water venues and events will often require you to wear one for this reason. One common misconception is that swim caps are designed to keep your hair dry.
