A watershed of tears, the awe of nature’s fury. On top of a Camarillo mountain, pastor Fawn Parish and her husband, Joey, explore the aftermath of their panoramic-view home burned to the ground. They escaped with two computers, a cat and a car. A forgotten guitar made by a homeless man, gifted to Fawn, lay in ashes. “…When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, neither will the flames kindle against you.” This Bible verse is one of many that sustain the faith of Fawn and Joey.

Our Ojai Day marks us as a community of goodwill, friendliness, open-hearted joy. It rolls away the places where we hide inside ourselves, allows us to openly embrace each other and the wonders of the life we all share. Meeting old friends, making new ones. This year, the dancing in the Bowl brought West Africa, the Middle East, Mexico, India, Japan and much more.

What is happening to Ojai? Has it become profit over people? I am told this pharmacy has been there for 100 years. History of Ojai now disrupted and families, friends, employees, and a lot of seniors can no longer walk from pharmacy to Post Office to the bank to the market.

“The cello is an extension of my body. Every note has a magnificent world inside of it.” These are the words of Ojai cellist Angela Rose Padula, age 17. On Sunday, April 7, at 3 p.m. in the Thacher School Auditorium, 5025 Thacher Road, the Quartet of Hope makes its debut performance. The Quartet was commissioned by the ROME Foundation in Germany and this inauguration concert is free.

On Sunday, April 7, Padula will perform as part of Trío de Ángeles in a free concert at Thacher School Auditorium. She will be joined by pianist Caden Lin, violinist Esme Arias-Kim and violist Samuel Tatsuki, all students of the prestigious Colburn School, a music academy in Los Angeles — akin to New York’s world-famous Juilliard School.
