Not even being attacked by a pack of captive coyotes could diminish Aspen Olmstead’s love of animals. Instead, she responded by creating the Ocala-based Quality of Life Rehab & Foster Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. “I grew up with dogs, cats, rabbits and reptiles. In a little more than 2 minutes and 29 seconds, Jena Antonucci made thoroughbred racing history. When Blue Rose Farm’s Arcangelo captured the 155th Belmont Stakes (G1) in 2:29.23 for the mile-and-a-half test on June 10, 2023, Antonucci became the first woman trainer to saddle the winner of a Triple Crown race. Leading up to that milestone, 43 women trainers had saddled horses in the Triple Crown races: Kentucky Derby (G1), Preakness Stakes (G1) and Belmont Stakes (G1). None recorded a win.

Pantone named Peach Fuzz its 2024 Color of the Year while trend forecasting agency WGSN went with Apricot Crush and Etsy picked Berry. But if none of those colors set you abuzz, the color palette for 2024 is a wide-ranging one. Horseback riding enthusiasts are always looking for the right horse. For Haley Castleberry, a retired racehorse named Adios Dee Dee was not a horse she was looking for but found anyhow. Dunnellon-based Jeremy Reynolds notched his fifth Tevis Cup victory on July 29 in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains. Reynolds, 43, and his mount Treasured Moments, a 13-year-old Arabian mare, covered the 100-mile endurance ride in 13 hours and 14 minutes. Reynolds also won the Tevis Cup in 2021, 2011, 2007 and 2004. “Treasure is such an amazing horse,” said Reynolds, who won the 2021 Tevis Cup with the same horse. “She is so special.
