Generative AI is AI produced to learn patterns from data, which can also be used to create patterns similar to those in data. ChatGPT and mistral are examples of generative AI. There are many other kinds of AI, for example, search. When I say just "AI" below, I mean all of AI, including but not limited to generative AI. You do not have to use generative AI.

For those who don't know (background)The EU's AI Act includes provisions for getting expert help in describing how to comply with it. These include the publication of a Code of Practice (CoP), which is to pass through four versions, the fourth being "final", though EU legal documents such as these are regularly revisited.

I just realised a possible explanation for why transhumanists and accelerationists often push universal basic income as a solution. It's because they think most people and their possible endeavours aren't really worth anything, and somehow just giving them money is the most humane thing to do. Also, if you suddenly find yourself in a situation where you can't afford to keep everyone alive, you can just cut off the spigot. I realised this because of two things.

Somehow my (new last term!) ethics course was undersubscribed this semester, and I heard about another course, at Hertie School, Geo-Economic & High-Tech Competition. I'd only just started realising that geoeconomics was a field having attend an excellent meeting about it in the German Ministry of Economics last Autumn, and it seemed entirely evident that it was hugely important to understanding how power was flowing around and through AI products and corporations.

History: In 2023, the EU was consolidating its legislation called "The AI Act" (or AI Regulation.) Despite the fact that this is a fairly boring piece of legislation just ensuring that at least some digital products (the ones that may automatically alter human lives) are subject to proper product law , there was a massive amount of lobbying and misinformation.
