On July 4, 2023, the European Commission (EC) published itsproposalfor a regulation laying down additional procedural rules for the enforcement of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (proposal). The proposal focuses on procedural issues relating to handling complaints and conducting investigations in cross-border cases.1The proposal adds to the procedural rules laid down in the GDPR and addresses certain practical issues and gaps.

On March 15, 2023, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB)announceda coordinated action on the role of the data protection officers (DPOs). The data protection authorities (DPAs) will ask DPOs a series of questions to inquire about their designation and position in their respective organizations. The DPAs will also investigate compliance with the DPO-related requirements and follow-up on ongoing formal investigations.
