Nothofagus menziesii, endemic to New Zealand is illustrated. Its history and habitat, and wild status are discussed. Notes on its presence in UK cultivation are given. A hybrid that has arisen in British gardens between Nothofagus menziesii and N. obliqua from Chile is formally described here as the nothospecies Nothofagus × transpacifica D.Crowley & Grimshaw.
