Last Halloween I was staying at a friend's house and they had loads of trick or treaters, and they were largely adorable (we ran out of sweets). This year, back to standard flat life: no visitors. Probably just as well given I was on Zwift half the evening!

Streaming recommendation: 'Mountain Queen' on Netflix, about the extraordinary Lhakpa Sherpa, the first woman to summit Everest 10 times. Such a strong, beautiful person despite immense personal trauma who's achieved a huge amount.

Made my Christmas cake today ... except I somehow misread a recipe I've used for several years and used 100g of flour instead of 275g. It's kind of a pudding. Tastes okay but will be turning it into other puddings - thinking some ice-cream - and remaking a proper cake.

If airlines really cared about making sure they left on time and stuff they'd charge less for checked bags. And to the guy in premium who complained about me turning his bag sideways so I could fit mine in, well, tough.

People are just fundamentally lazy, aren't they?

Dear @TfL, why are buses terminating at Putney Heath kicking passengers off at Lytton Grove? Driver on my #37 just now said it was health & safety, but the bus is still continuing to the bus station at the Heath. It makes zero sense and is not in any way safer for passengers.

Am heroically resisting temptation to try and explain to the rowing club WhatsApp group why the petition to 'reinstate lightweight rowing' is doomed to failure (reasons: money, and lightweights really being pretty quick these days. Evidence: both LW 2xs in Paris, & Tim Brys).

Interesting to read Jonnie Peacock's Diamond League comments from the rowing perspective, where at world champs and world cups the para rowers compete alongside everyone else. They're just another boat class. This should be same for all sports (where logistics allow), IMHO.

French food is great, and a fresh baguette sandwich from a boulangerie is a very good sandwich. However the ready-made supermarket lunch options are terrible compared to the UK. More processed, less tasty.
