In The Architecture of Silence, Seidenberg examines the failed post-war land reform movement known as the Riforma Fondiaria to which these imaged structures and landscapes belong. Between 1952 and 1972, the Italian government implemented this land reform policy in a few key agrarian centers of the countryside. Funded by the Marshall Plan, the program placed land in the possession of impoverished families, but did so without the infrastructure necessary to make the small holdings sustainable.

''I came up at a time when images of Latinos were few and far between. I rarely saw someone who
looked like me, my parents or my cousins anywhere. If I did see us represented, it was usually in a
film where the Puerto Ricans were sporting a 70’s afro, and doing something likely on the wrong
side of the law. Their lives didn’t seem to really matter. I think that may have something to do with
why I became an actress. I wanted to see myself and my family as we were.

A push to rename the Tampa Bay Rays baseball franchise as the "St. Petersburg Rays" is attracting public interest — but also raising concerns. Former St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker pitched the idea last week to some city council members individually. He claimed that the change should come as part of the deal for the Rays’ new stadium, which will be partially funded by St. Petersburg city public dollars. City Council Member Gina Driscoll met with Baker to talk about the possibility.
