This research aimed to identify core orienting themes of the WASH sector, as legacies of past processes, that can provide insights for future WASH. We combined documentary analysis with expert interviews to explore how the WASH sector has been shaped over the past 70 years by both internal changes in the sector and the external forces of the global political economy and development apparatus, and how in turn this has impacted on national agendas.
