It was a day of giving over at Jackson State University on Saturday for the school's biannual Crop Drop event. Cars were lined up all the way to Gallatin Street as they descended on the campus to pick up much-needed items. People were greeted with sweet potatoes, collard greens, cleaning supplies, even generators and other goods as the school gave back to those in need in the capital city. One JSU senior says this event really makes a difference for those trying to make ends meet.

For the second time in three years JSU athletics director Ashley Robinson earns National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics AD of the Year Award.Robinson, a Murrah grad, was recognized as one of four ADs at the Football Championship Subdivision or FCS level to win the award.In 2024 the JSU Tigers started the year with another SWAC Championship from the women's basketball program in what would be Tomekia Reed's final season as head coach.

Mississippi is once again in the national spotlight as residents across the state work to clean up after the weekend’s deadly tornadoes. An EF-2 tornado that struck Walthall County killed three people. The track of that tornado went on for 70 miles, according to state officials. Drone video from the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency shows wide swaths of trees that were snapped and knocked over. It looks almost like a pile of matchsticks.

College Park, GA – The Mississippi Valley State Devilettes are still dancing! In a thrilling opening-round battle of the SWAC Tournament at the Gateway Center Arena, MVSU edged past Florida A&M 68-65 in an overtime showdown, punching their ticket to the next round. The Devilettes (9-22, 6-12 SWAC) showed resilience and heart, overcoming multiple deficits in a back-and-forth contest that featured six ties and 19 lead changes.
