The Austrian star who became a fan favourite during his two stints at Maranello was speaking for the first time about his old team’s prospects for the new F1 season and his comments are likely to embolden an increasingly confident tifosi as the dream team partnership of Charles Leclerc and Hamilton becomes a reality ahead of the first grand prix in March.

    Visitors to Ferrari’s famous HQ in Maranello have in recent weeks noticed an addition to the famous campus. It is a huge 42,500 square metre glass and steel factory building on the northern edge of the existing site which was unveiled over the summer. Ferrari refers to it as the E-building and it represents the biggest expansion of the marque’s factory for decades.

    How important is it to preserve evidence of past racing glories? On this, readers of Motor Sport and I will agree. One of the biggest and best investments we have made in recent years is digitising our entire back catalogue of magazines right back to 1924 and allowing subscribers to search for material via the archive section of our website. However, old film footage of racing’s past is in danger of being overlooked when it comes to preservation.
