North Plains Connector is an approximately 420-mile interregional electricity transmission line that will be built from eastern Montana to central North Dakota. The line will connect the western and eastern electric grids and three transmission planning regions, making it one of the most impactful lines in development today.

The SOO Green High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Link is a 350-mile interregional underground electricity transmission line built mostly along an existing railroad right of way in Iowa and Illinois. The first of its kind in the United States, the project also aims to create local jobs and construct parallel infrastructure projects identified as priorities by the community; it has already begun giving out good neighbor payments to landowners whose property abuts the railway.

More than two years after the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, billions of dollars are flowing into US clean infrastructure projects. However, without big changes, progress will be impeded by an ageing grid in need of expansion and a regulatory structure that prevents high-voltage transmission from being built at speed and scale.
