With September hues and views coming to the Black Hills, one might think of a corresponding lowering of temperatures of a more seasonable level. Well, maybe not, as a look at next week’s forecast quickly dispels. Following a cooler weekend, temperatures are expected to give way to readings in the low 90s throughout much of next week.

Steady as she goes perhaps best summarizes the Black Hills area report this week. The thermometer continues to hover around warmer numbers, a situation that results in consistent water temperatures in area lakes and streams thereby promoting stability. Typically, very pleasant conditions while late summer slowly transition into a fall-like mode. More of the same indicates that area lakes and streams continue to produce consistent fishing prospects.

With the Central States Fair winding down this weekend, the Black Hills area summer calendar of high-volume signature events draws to a close, and numerous high school activities come to the fore. And for area anglers, late August is an excellent time to visit a lake or stream and cast a line or two into the water. After all, whether chasing walleye, smallmouth bass, trout, or pike, mid to late August is often excellent time to land some of the biggest fish of the year.

And thus while the faces may change, more of the same is a familiar refrain. Those same features would seem apply to the fishing front as well this year. A few less faces perhaps as a number of area bait shops have temporarily shuttered, but the bite is much the same as one might expect this time of the year.
