ELY, Minn. — Firefighting crews extinguishing a wildfire in the BWCA have left the region now that the fire is contained. In an update on Sunday, the National Incident Management Organization (NIMO) said the Horse River Fire was 100% contained after burning 13 acres. This follows the announcement on Saturday that firefighting crews and equipment were being removed from the area.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Law enforcement is investigating after a body was pulled from the Mississippi River Sunday in St. Paul. According to St. Paul Police, officers were called to Harriet Island just after 10 a.m. with the report of a body in the river. Officials say responders confirmed the body in the river and requested the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol to assist in the body’s removal. No additional information is available as of late Sunday morning.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Minn. — Cool weather and rain have provided the favorable conditions needed for crews to make progress on the Northland wildfires. In a Sunday morning update from the Eastern Area Incident Management Team, the Camp House Fire is now 31% contained. Burning for a week, the press release said the wildfire has not grown in size for the past four days. Officials said crews were able to build containment lines on the south and west sides of the fire on Saturday.

SAINT PETER, Minn. — Law enforcement is searching for a man who escaped the Minnesota Sex Offender Program in St. Peter. According to St. Peter Police, law enforcement was notified on Saturday evening that 53-year-old Steven Edwards had escaped the program. Officials say Edwards was last seen on the St. Peter Regional Treatment Center Campus around 6:50 p.m. on Friday, May 16. Police say that Edwards was last confirmed to be in Albert Lea on Saturday.
