This should be the last day of smoky skies for the region as the winds above us will be switching and pushing the smoke away from the region later today and tonight. So, the smoke will be much less of a thing the rest of the week, it appears. With the change in the winds above us, there will also be a change in the weather here on the ground. Rain and storm chances are on the increase early Tuesday through Tuesday night as a front comes into a warm and humid air mass.

Our weather continues to be fascinating. Yesterday’s forecast worked out well with bubbles off showers and storms developing in the late afternoon and while most didn’t get a drop there were some downpours mixed in. The fascinating part of yesterday though was a somewhat unusual cold air funnel cloud that developed in Platte County just south of Platte City around 5:55 PM. It was captured by one of our long time contributors, Hunter Hurley who was in the right spot at the right time.

Another blah start to the day in the region with areas of drizzle and light rain continuing to move through the region. Rain amounts have been rather light with KCI getting a bit more than about 1/10″ or so. Other areas farther south have had a bit more, closer to 1/3″ through the south part of the Metro. The rain will continue through about lunch or so before breaking in the early afternoon.
