Heat make a strong return this week

Last week we had a nice taste of autumn, but as we warned, this was not going to last too long. Tonight will not be nearly as cool as recent nights with lows in the upper 50s to the lower 60s. A batch of showers and thunderstorms will be around later at night into Monday morning. Some places will get much-needed rainfall while other spots will be missed. The best chance for rain will be west of I-99, especially in the Laurel Highlands.
A nice weekend is coming our way

The rest of the afternoon will feature sunshine with low humidity and temperatures reaching the upper 70s to near 80. With a light wind and a mostly clear sky, temperatures will drop fast this evening. So if you are heading to a High School Football game, bring a light jacket or sweatshirt. After a cool start, the sunshine will warm us a little more on Saturday with temperatures rising into the lower to perhaps middle 80s.

This is going to be a comfortable airmass for this time of the year. High temperatures will reach into the 70s with comfortable humidity on Saturday.
Milder air will make a return this week

We had a chilly day today despite a good deal of sunshine. Temperatures only reached into the 30s. The sky will be mostly clear early tonight, and with the winds diminishing, temperatures will drop fast. Some clouds will press southward from the north during the middle and latter part of the night. There could even be a couple of flurries around, especially near and north of I-80. Lows tonight will be in the 20s.
A quick-hitting snowfall by Tuesday morning

Accumulations near and south of I-80 will be around 3″ in the deeper valleys to around 6″ on some of the hilltops.
The bright pattern will continue

We are having an exceptionally dry and mild weather pattern for February. An area of high pressure will give us a clear sky. This combined with a light wind and a dry airmass will help temperatures to drop fast tonight. Lows will be in the 20s. Sunshine will only mix with a few clouds on Monday. While the day will start chilly, temperatures will still be able to rebound into the 40s during the afternoon. Monday night will be chilly with lows well down into the 20s.
Rain and snow tapers for the start of the workweek

Scattered rain and snow showers will end as scattered snow showers and flurries by Monday morning. Additional accumulation will be coating to an inch or two near and north of I-80 and across the higher elevations with little or no accumulations in the valley spots farther to the south and east. Lows by the early morning hours will be in the lower to middle 30s, but low enough for some icy spots.
A cold start to the work week

A cold front will move through the region tonight. Ahead of the front, we will have rain showers. Behind the front, later tonight will be windy and it will turn colder with rain showers mixing with snowflakes, especially near and west of Route 219. Monday will feature a cold wind. Near and east of I-99 we will have clouds and some sunshine with highs in the middle to upper 30s and just the chance for a flurry or a brief snow shower.
Wintercast 2023 - Will an El Nino bring us a more typical winter?

(WTAJ) — In 2022’s Wintercast, we discussed a rare La Nina three-peat. This year, we’ve jumped back into an El Nino pattern. Does this mean we break our streak of relatively mild winters? Well, it’s not quite that simple. What is an El Nino? It’s a warming of the equatorial Pacific thanks to weaker-than-average trade winds. A lack of this easterly flow allows water to warm in place with less coming up from the cool depths of the ocean.
A bright stretch of weather this week

We’re going to have tranquil weather as we head into the work week. With a clear sky, light winds, and a dry atmosphere, temperatures are going to fall fast tonight. Lows will be in the 20s. An area of high pressure sliding east of the area on Monday will give us a good deal of sunshine. This sunshine will turn a chilly morning into a relatively comfortable afternoon with highs in the 50s. A weak front will move into the area Monday night, but this front will diminish as it does so.
