OK, I’ll be honest with you. I could have driven out to Galactic Core Bay, but I did not have the energy – and I did not rent a 4×4, so getting there might have been a bit of a challenge, as it would have involved driving on dirt roads. You see, out there in the west of Qatar there is a whole lot of desert. Still, they say if you get to Galactic Core Bay, you are in the perfect place to view the galactic core of the Milky Way.

If you are travelling into the centre of Mexico City from the Autodromo, you will likely drive along the Viaducto Presidente Miguel Alemán Valdés. This is one of the busiest roads in the city and at peak hours you are lucky if you average four miles an hour. The city has around five million registered cars and there are more than 30,000 traffic incidents every day.

If you head west from the Circuit of the Americas, to the south of Austin, you learn a lot about the history of Texas. It is cow country and after the Civil War the cattle from all over the south of Texas would be gathered there and then driven north (by cowboys), 650 miles on the Chisholm Trail to Abilene in Kansas, by way of the Red River which was then uncharted territory (today Oklahoma) until the trail arrived at the railroad.

The Brasserie Wepler is known for its oysters. It is a large restaurant on the Place Clichy. You cannot miss it. It’s red. Very red – and Belle Epoque in style. The brasserie, in the north of Paris, has been in business since 1881 and was a celebrated place where writers and artists used to hang out. The list of clients, so they say, included Henry Miller, Guillaume Apollinaire, Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Maurice Utrillo.

Worms is an old German city where the Holy Roman Emperor used to have an occasional parliament (known as a Diet) and thus youngsters the world over have tittered in class when they are told that the Germans had a diet of worms. To be quite honest, I did learn it all years ago but I’ve forgotten what it was all about. It was something to do with Martin Luther (the priest not the King) who married a nun and thus upset the Pope, who issued lots of Bulls (as Popes used to do).
