    Ligonier Valley School District’s Board of Directors approved the hiring of Dante Porter on Monday, July 8, as the next boys basketball coach. Porter takes over the program after the resignation of Tim Gustin. Porter was associate head basketball coach of Geibel Catholic Junior-Senior School from 2018 to 2023, where his team was a five-time WPIAL qualifier, PIAA state qualifier three times, and earned third place and fourth place in the WPIAL in 2022 and 2023.

    Madison Griffin is well-known throughout the Valley for her softball skills. She was certainly a leading lady in her Rams uniform, and had some impressive statistics throughout high school. Griffin has just finished her sophomore season at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She contributed to the team’s fifth-place finish in the conference, and has benefited greatly through strong coaching and hard-working teammates. “Our team did really well,” Griffin reflected.

    It’s quite a shame that the scammers have made a full-time job of hurting others instead of trying to earn an honest day’s work. I am simply overwhelmed at the number of scams on social media these days. It’s sad because most of the victims of these scams are just trying to help out and yet being taken advantage of by a scammer. The scam I’ve been seeing the most lately is the missing child or pet scam. The scammers are posting photos of the child or pet.

    Jeff Page is more than just the voice of the Rams. His voice is heard at every Friday evening home football game at Weller Field, inside the gymnasium at home basketball games and announcing senior nights and the district’s Hall of Fame event. But, when he’s not announcing, there is a good likelihood that he is in attendance at the event — cheering on the Rams and encouraging their success.

    Ligonier Valley High School’s Class of 2024 graduate Clara Wallace participated in the PIAA state finals in three sports — cross-country, bocce and track and field. Quite well-known for her athletic ability, Wallace is just as well-known for her kindness, authenticity and trademark smile. She also performed excellently in the classroom and earned an achievement award for excellence in visual arts.
