    By Joe SnyderOver the past couple of months, Serra High’s football team participated in several Spring-Summer passing and other football fundamental events and head coach Scott Altenberg is seeking to bring back contention for CIF-Southern Section and CIF-State crowns this fall. The Cavaliers strength appears to be on defense, behind senior tackle Khary Wilder, a four-star recruit who already committed to Big 10 power Ohio State University.

    By Joe SnyderSince 1968, athletes of all ages with intellectual disabilities have been competing in various sports and last weekend’s Special Olympics at Cal State University, Long Beach was another success. Included were local teams from Torrance and the rest of the South Bay. It was a grand finale of the unified spring sports that included athletics (track and field), basketball, bocce (a little like croquet or lawn bowling), flag football and swimming.

    By Joe SnyderSerra High’s track and field athletes exceled in the CIF-Southern Section Division IV Championships on May 17 at Moorpark High but saw the more prestigious Southern Section Masters Championships (with Divisions I, II, III and IV combined) way tougher and more competitive last Saturday at the same place. As of last Saturday, the Cavaliers advanced just one athlete in Raelyn Pleasant to the CIF-State Meet after she finished fifth in the girls’ triple jump at 37 feet, five inches.

    By Joe SnyderPrior to last Saturday’s CIF-Southern Section Division IV Track and Field Championships, Serra High head coach Princeton Williams was confident that the Cavaliers could win the championship. It ended up with the Cavaliers tying for the title with Viewpoint High from Calabasas with 49 points apiece Saturday at Moorpark High. Foothill Tech from Ventura finished third with 37 points. Otis “Tre” Harrison repeated as Division IV 300-meter intermediate hurdle champion at 38.2 seconds.
