By Joe SnyderSerra High’s boys’ and girls’ track and field teams vied in Friday and Saturday’s prestigious Arcadia Invitational and came out with strong showings. The big highlight for the Cavaliers was Otis “Tre” Harrison who won his heat and finished second overall in the boys’ 300-meter intermediate hurdles at 38.04 seconds on Saturday. He was just .03 seconds slower than the top overall finisher in Samel Eminovic from Mountain Ridge, Ariz. (38.01).

By Joe SnyderNorth Torrance High’s baseball team took a rest from the Pioneer League and recorded two non-league wins at home over Playa del Rey St. Bernard 9-8 in nine innings last Thursday and 10-2 over Santa Monica St. Monica on Friday. Against St. Bernard, it was mostly a see-saw game. North held a 6-4 lead after three innings and were tied at seven after four and eight after five. The Saxons pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

By Joe SnyderGardena High’s boys’ baseball team began the Marine League with a bang with a pair of games against a highly regarded Banning High team last week. The Pilots are currently ranked fourth in the CIF-Los Angeles City Section by MaxPreps and they showed why with mercy rule lopsided wins over the Panthers at 25-1 on March 26 at Gardena and 10-0 last Friday at Banning in Wilmington.

By Joe SnyderNorth Torrance High’s baseball team won its second Pioneer League game of the season with an 8-3 victory over host Peninsula High on March 19 in Rolling Hills Estates. The Saxons jumped on the Panthers early with four runs in the top of the first inning and two more in the second for a 6-0 lead. North added one run apiece in the top of the third and fourth for an 8-2 lead.

By Joe SnyderCal State Dominguez Hills basketball is enjoying probably its best season ever. The Toro men and women swept the California Collegiate Athletic Association championships, both in regular season and the conference tournament and were already headed to the NCAA Division II Western Regional championship games, which were both last Monday.
