The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, with a single no vote, has repealed a consumer carbon tax once seen as a model for North America. The repeal was fast-tracked through the Legislature with only a few hours’ debate. Its repeal will cut gas prices at the pump by 17 cents a liter, predicted B.C. Premier David Eby. The price of petroleum in the province had reached a sky high $1.50-1.90 per liter (Canadian).

Canada’s newly minted Prime Minister Mark Carney doesn’t mess around. In his first nine days, Carney has traveled to France and Britain, ventured to the far north, made a housing announcement in Edmonton, rebuked Trump over the Yemen bombing leak, and called a snap election. The country’s other politicians also don’t mess around either, and Canadians will vote April 28th. The winner gets to take on Donald Trump and his 25-percent tariffs.

New Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney asked Governor-General Mary Simon to dissolve Parliament one day before it was set to meet in Ottawa. Simon granted the request for a snap election at the end of April, kicking off a short campaign in which the latest surveys suggest the Liberals will have an advantage after a long period of Conservative dominance in the polls.
