Sarah Cole will serve as the next dean of the School of the Arts, University President Minouche Shafik announced in a Tuesday email to the University community. Cole served as interim dean for the past academic year and began her tenure immediately. The appointment comes after a monthslong search process by a University committee for a new permanent dean.

Columbia film and media studies professor Richard Peña acknowledges that film culture is changing, and not necessarily for the better. Even so, he maintains optimism for the future potential of cinema. Peña appeared in conversation with Museum of Modern Art department of film curator Josh Siegel on Sunday at the Lenfest Center for the Arts as part of the Richard Peña Selects film festival, which ran Friday through Sunday.
