With $1 million dedicated to renovating and expanding Shawnee State University’s Advanced Manufacturing Center, Airable Research Lab is setting up a new hub aiming to unlock new market opportunities for soybean-based products. In February, Barry McGraw, founder of Airable Research Lab, joined Ohio farmers, industry leaders, and dignitaries to celebrate the expansion.

On Dec. 24 of 2024, though, it happened. “For perspective of how this is really a huge impact, we’ve been dealing with this since 2022. Up until Christmas Eve, in 2024 we had zero cases of commercial flocks in Ohio and only 3 cases of backyard flocks. Then all of the sudden Christmas Eve came.

Livestock, Top Headlines Nearly a million birds have been impacted by an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in western Ohio. The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA), confirmed the December 27 discovery of HPAI by the National Veterinary Services Laboratory. The outbreak involves 931,302 chickens at a Darke County commercial table egg layer operation.
