That pretty much describes Jacob Herber, who assumes the pulpit at Norfolk’s Congregation Beth El in mid-July. “I am really looking forward to living and working in your community,” says Herber, who grew up in Beacon, a small town outside New York City where he received his grounding in Judaism.

It was just another boring Friday afternoon in Washington…. until it wasn’t!President Trump and Vice President Vance met with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, ostensibly to sign a minerals deal… only to see it all blow up in an unprecedented spectacle of public disagreement. The deal was cancelled. Zelenskyy was kicked out. Diplomacy for a peace deal is in shambles. That meeting in the Oval Office had one clear winner: Vladimir Putin.

Plans for the largest grocery merger in American history are over. A day after a federal judge delivered a serious blow to the merger, Albertsons announced Wednesday it was giving up on the controversial deal to join forces with its competitor Kroger and sued the chain, alleging it failed to do enough to win government approval for the $24.6 billion agreement.

I arrived at the LA Times straight out of j-school in 2003 for what was supposed to be a 6-week summer internship. Nearly 22 years and a whole lot of words later, I've decide to leave the paper at the end of the week. It's been a wild, fulfilling ride. Excited for what's next.
