However, OCT can give misleading measurements, known as artifacts. “An artifact is an error where the machine provides inaccurate information,” said Teresa C. Chen, MD, Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School in Boston. Artifacts can arise from multiple sources—the technician administering the exam, other diseases, and glaucoma itself.
