With the election over and the Trump transition team in a furious race to get names and positions filled, thoughtful friends of mine shake their heads and lament the difficulty in managing complex systems. Every incoming president, supposedly, tries to find the most talented leader-managers to head agencies and agendas. The federal government is a labyrinth of agencies, a massive web of bean counters and pencil pushers.

Government largesse is everywhere. But it’s inherently unfair, even when it sounds kind. Here’s what I mean…The college tuition bailouts made everyone who either didn’t go to college or paid for their education themselves look like suckers. The day the government involved itself in higher education, tuition costs increased dramatically. Young people developed a new sense of entitlement. And the “help” bred resentment from those who didn’t or wouldn’t take advantage of the freebie.

MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) and MAGA (Make America Great Again) have teamed up with the end of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s campaign and the endorsement of the Donald Trump campaign. This is a wonderful alignment on many levels, signaling perhaps a new awareness among conservatives. First, in full transparency, I have been courted by the RFK Jr. team to endorse him, to be on his farm policy advisory board, etc. I’ve been a guest on his podcast twice. I’m friends with his inner sanctum.

I received a conservative Republican’s donation request this week. His platform includes the need for better schools as a better taxpayer value. Of the many political pleas I’ve received over the years, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a platform that said “abolish government schools.”Why? For nearly two centuries, our republic functioned without government schools… and the literacy rate was higher than it is today.
