Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced he will sign Senate Bill 2 into law at 2 p.m. on Saturday to create a $1 billion school voucher program to direct public funding toward some students’ private education. He will be joined at the Texas Governor’s Mansion by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows, state Sen. Brandon Creighton and state Rep. Brad Buckley, R-Salado. Creighton and Buckley authored the legislation that was approved by the full Texas House and the full Texas Senate in April.

His latest three-year term expires next month following the May 3 election.
