1. IntroductionStents are small, tubular implants that are commonly used to treat atherosclerosis, e.g., coronary artery disease. After being implanted, the stent needs to provide the required mechanical strength, sufficient resistance to corrosion, and adequate biocompatibility. Generally, stents can be permanent, temporary, and drug eluting. Permanent stents are metallic stents that are also known as bare metal stents (BMS).
