DiscussionIn this study, we investigated lymphocyte numbers, percentage of proliferating CD4+ and CD8+ T cells identified by Ki-67 expression, and FoxP3+CD4+ T cells putatively representing Tregs, in BALF and PB in patients with sarcoidosis at diagnosis, and in PB repeatedly during the first year after diagnosis. No significant differences were observed over time for any of the examined parameters.

Statistical analysisCharacteristics of sarcoidosis cases and controls were reported as means with standard deviations, as medians with ranges or as proportions. The odds ratios (OR) of sarcoidosis associated with each lifestyle factor were estimated using conditional logistic regression models adjusted for educational level, BMI (continuous), smoking status, snus status, alcohol consumption and physical activity.
