Genetic information could be as valuable as age and weight to blood donation management. The value of genetic information in predicting iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) and haemoglobin deferral in donors is unclear. Genetic variation predisposing significantly to IDA seems to be a small subset of genetic variation affecting haemoglobin and ferritin.
