Going to Croke Park for a major club final is one thing – getting the job done is another. Without question, the greatest day in the history of Watergrasshill GAA took place at GAA headquarters last Sunday. Sometimes the preference is to play down the big occasion. Watergrasshill supporters were having none of that and in the week running up to their showdown with Galway representatives, Tynagh/Abbey-Duniry, there was only one subject of conversation on the ‘hill.

The annual Christmas South Tipperary Hospice auction took place in Ryan’s Bar, Burncourt last Friday night. There was a full house for this popular fundraiser, with approximately 120 items realising a very impressive €10,000. Kevin Casey did a great job as auctioneer, as did all the hardworking volunteers. Fundraising chairman, Tadhg Curtin, thanked the many individuals and businesses for donating items and the public for being so generous. Coverage in this week’s Print & Digital Edition

Almost 200 vehicles assembled in St. Catherine’s GAA grounds in Ballynoe on Saturday, 21st December for a run in aid of both the juvenile club and Motor Neurone Ireland. A complex organisational undertaking, the event ran exceptionally smoothly thanks to good planning and the large number of volunteer stewards. Having access to a field opposite the GAA complex proved crucial, as this allowed most of the tractors to be parked there.

Popular bar and restaurant, The Ramble Inn, Mitchelstown had a busy run up to Christmas with the highlight being the traditional ‘party night’ on Monday 23rd. Comprising mainly of very loyal social dancers, it proved to be a really entertaining and enjoyable evening with good music, great food and a bumper prize draw. A card game also took place on the night, with this select group being accommodated in a separate part of the building. Coverage in this week’s Print & Digital Edition

The evening of Saturday, 21st December was not pleasant weather wise. Things were even less pleasant at the summit of Sliabh Riagh – an elevated, exposed mountain side close to the county Limerick village of Glenbrohane (near Ballylanders). This was the destination however of a 40 strong crowd, who were marking the shortest day of the year (also known as the winter solstice). An age old tradition, the trek is replicated on 21st June, the longest day of the year (summer solstice).
