BorackSomewhere back in the late '80s/early '90s, I recall former Goldmine editor Jeff Tamarkin penning an article for the magazine where he listed several top-notch albums that had not yet been released on compact disc. Now here we are more than 35 years later, and the tide has turned - the vinyl resurgence has seen the reissue of many fine albums on wax, but there are still several that remain CD-only.

Earlier this year, my fellow Goldmine scribe Martin Popoff penned an article titled, "An Alternate History of Power Pop in 20 Albums," which detailed long-players not generally considered to fit into most pundits' relatively narrow definition of the genre. I agreed with some of Martin's choices (Billy Squier, XTC, Graham Parker), disagreed with others (The Tubes), and was inspired to write something similar - this time with songs as opposed to full-length albums.
