It’s a little surprising how popular World War II is as a genre and a setting for video games. Gamers seem obsessed with fighting and refighting battles that took place over 80 years ago. Not that I am complaining, as I’m a huge fan as well. I try to play just about every WWII themed title that releases. For example, recently we reviewed Headquarters World War II, which was a tactical wargame with vastly improved graphics compared to most others in that field.

It’s not very often that gamers are treated to brand new stories, unique settings and new worlds to explore. But South of Midnight by developer Compulsion Games checks all of those boxes. Set in the Deep South part of the United States, it’s filled with lore, monsters and stories from that part of the country. And it also tells a fascinating story that has players learning about the secret world of magic weaving alongside the plucky protagonist.

Spilled is an extremely cute adventure that challenges players to help clean up the waterways of a colorful, cartoon-like paradise that have been assaulted and stained by a violent polluter. The entire game, which is now available on Steam, is played completely on the water, with players controlling a small red riverboat equipped with a scoop to siphon up oil.
